Berlin is unlike any other European capital. It's raw, creative, historically complex, and unapologetically itself. From the remnants of the Berlin Wall to the pulsating beats of underground techno clubs, Berlin offers an experience that's impossible to replicate — and it's one of Western Europe's most affordable major cities.

Free and Cheap Culture
Museum Island houses five world-class museums. While individual tickets cost €12-14, the Island pass (€22) is good value. Many museums are free for under-18s. The street art scene in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain, and Neukölln is completely free — take a self-guided walking tour through these vibrant neighborhoods.

Food: Cheap and Diverse
Berlin might be Europe's best value food city. Döner kebab (€4-5) is an institution — Mustafa's Gemüse Kebap is legendary. Currywurst (€3-4) from Curry 36 or Konnopke's is a must-try. Vietnamese food in Dong Xuan Center (€5-7), Turkish food in Kreuzberg (€6-10), and falafel (€3-4) complete the budget food scene.
Nightlife
Berlin's nightlife is legendary. Many clubs (Berghain, Watergate, Tresor) charge €10-20 entry for nights that run from Saturday midnight to Monday morning. Pre-drinks at Spätis (corner shops selling beers for €1-2) are a Berlin tradition. Bar culture in Neukölln and Kreuzberg offers cocktails from €5-7.
Getting Around
A day ticket (AB zone) costs €8.80 covering all buses, trams, U-Bahn and S-Bahn. Berlin is also incredibly bikeable — flat terrain and excellent bike infrastructure make it ideal for cycling.
